IN NEW BARRELS
  • Extends barrel life 2-3 times
  • Lets you mold with a consistent cushion. This ensures perfect fills every time. It maximizes part strength and lets you hold critical part dimensions more closely because you exert the same pressure on every shot.
  • Stops the jetting back of plastic around the O.D. of the sliding ring or tip body. This reduces unwanted frictional heat created by the plastic as it leaks back around the tip while you are trying to fill the part.
  • Eliminates the need to over-stoke (or over retract) your screw to compensate for all the plastic that leaks back past ordinary tips. Shortening your screw stroke, in turn, shortens cycle times.

How to order
  1. You may order a BRODY-ring(s) from IMS and grind the groove in your own tip (any make or style). Many popular sizes rings are in stock for same day shipment. Most custom sizes are available in just 24 hours. Instructions showing all the necessary groove dimensions you will need are provided.
  2. You can order a New IMS Screw Tip with BRODY-ring already installed. Delivering is quoted on request.
What makes a BRODY-ring seal? It was Pat Brody’s (inventor) idea of letting the plastic force the ring against the barrel that culminated the many experiments which led to the success of his concept. This is accomplished by using a diagonal slot between the ends of the ring. The ring does not entirely close as with automotive piston rings. While some plastic can get through it, still, the gap is so small compared to the circumference of the ring, that one can safely say that no significant blow-back occurs. It is this gap that allows the plastic pressure under the ring to expand it. This makes the BRODY-ring seal work to stop blow-back, even in barrels with wear up to .025 in.
