need a thermocouple built in to measure the temperature precisely or a custom
application that threads into your device. |
| Matching a precisely drilled hole to the diameter of
the heater is the key to selection process. This matched fit prolongs heater
life. Making sure that the surface of the heater makes contact with the object
being heated is vital. Any air gap/spaces cause hot spots that cause the heater
to burn out prematurely. |
| Another important application issue is the use of a
Heat Transfer/Anti-Seize Compound. IMS has two choices, Infra-Kote – good to
350° and SafeKote – good to 600°, to fill any space left in the hole to improve
heat transfer and allows the cartridge to be removed from the mold, die, or
other application easier – cutting maintenance time. |
| One common misunderstanding is that entire cartridge heater is
“hot”. There actually are cold or non-heated areas of the heater that vary
depending on the diameter and length of the heater. For most standard sizes,
the bottom 1/4" at the sealed end, and the 1/4" at the top where the leads exit
the heater are not heated. Keep this in mind for the specification of drilling
holes and the overall heating application. |
